This mixed berry sauce is not only quick and easy to make, but it is absolutely delicious and a game changer for us! It is refined sugar free, using only maple syrup and the natural sugars of the berries to sweeten it.

Mixed berry sauce is delicious over pancakes, waffles, ice cream or mixed into yogurt.

You need to try this for pancakes(or waffles), let’s stop for a moment and think about how delicious this warm berry sauce would be drizzled over a fresh, hot stack of pancakes….

Are you with me? Craving pancakes now?

ME TOO!

However, another great use for this is in yogurt. I buy whole plain yogurt for my family and add a couple of spoonfuls of this sauce to turn it into a naturally sweetened and flavored yogurt.

Of course, any yogurt consumption in our home is always topped with my Easy Homemade Granola, which is also a staple in my kitchen.

Ingredients for Berry Sauce

  • Frozen Berries – I use a mixed bag with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Frozen means you can make this year round!
  • Maple Syrup – I use pure maple syrup to sweeten the berries just a bit. Not much is needed as the berries provide their own sweetness.
  • Water
  • Lemon juice – bottled or fresh will work
  • Vanilla

How to make Mixed Berry Sauce

  • In a small saucepan, add the berries, water and maple syrup.
  • Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  • Once the berries are softened, remove from heat.
  • Stir in the lemon juice and vanilla.
  • Using a blender(immersion or countertop) to blend everything into a sauce. If you prefer chunks of fruit in the sauce, use a potato masher.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Tips and Substitutions

  • Any type of frozen berries may be used here.
  • Fresh berries can also be used if desired.
  • I find the easiest way to store this is in a glass mason jar.
  • Let cool before adding to yogurt.
