I love homemade granola so much more than store bought! Added bonus is that I get to control the ingredients. This easy homemade granola is simple with clean ingredients and rarely lasts more than a few days in my home.
Most store bought granolas are loaded with sugar, but with this recipe you will feel good knowing that it is naturally sweetened with honey and a minimal amount. If you’ve never made granola, you will be surprised at just how easy it is to make! All you need is a rimmed baking sheet, large mixing bowl and a pot to melt/warm the wet ingredients.
Homemade Granola Ingredients
Oats
Old fashioned rolled oats are the main ingredient for granola. If you need these to be gluten free, make sure to check your labels and get certified gluten free.
Seeds and Nuts
This particular variation has almonds, pumpkin and hemp seeds. Feel free to swap out the nut type to pecans or walnuts and even use whole nuts instead of sliced or pieces. Other seeds such as sunflower or sesame can also be used.
If you need this to be nut free, simply replace the nuts with another seed type.
Oil
Using a little bit of refined coconut oil instead of butter cuts quite a few calories and also allows this recipe to be dairy free. It is fine to use unrefined coconut oil, but this will add in a little bit more of a coconut taste.
Sweetener
I use honey to sweeten granola, however maple syrup can be used in its place.
Spices
This is a simple (but delicious) granola recipe and only uses a few spices which are cinnamon, ginger and salt.
Optional Add Ins
Raisins, dried cranberries or chocolate chips are a great addition. My preference is to add dried fruit after the granola is baked and cooled. Always add chocolate chips after baking or they will melt.
Please note, adding any of these will change the calories that I have calculated in the recipe card.
Storing Homemade Granola
Store your homemade granola in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. If your family is like mine, it won’t last that long!
