Quick Cheddar Jalapeño Bagels

Stack of bagels

I love a good bagel and there really isn’t a flavor that I don’t enjoy(at least that I’ve found). However, these quick cheddar jalapeño bagels are at the top of the list.

Toasted with cream cheese is one of my favorite ways to eat it. Simple and delicious. I’ve recently fell in love with putting an over easy egg on it, which gives me extra protein for my carb loving soul.

These quick cheddar jalapeño bagels satisfy my carb craving in only 30 minutes. This recipe uses a very simple dough, no boiling required and you can top them with whatever you want.

Let’s talk dough. Two main ingredients in these and they are all-purpose flour and non-fat Greek yogurt. Yep. No yeast, no rise time. Add in some baking powder and salt and that’s it. You can also sub in self-rising flour and omit the baking powder and salt.

Ingredients to make Quick Cheddar Jalapeño Bagels:

  • 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Cup Non-fat Greek Yogurt
  • 1/4 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Jalapeño, sliced or chopped (Fresh or jarred)

Directions:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F
  • Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together in a large bowl and then add the Greek yogurt. If you are using self-rising flour, just combine the yogurt and flour.
Flour mixed with Greek Yogurt
  • Grab a spatula or wooden spoon and stir to combine. It will be a loose dough.
Dough in bowl mixed together
  • Add in 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar and mix it into the dough. Don’t worry too much about getting it combined really well because you’re going to be kneading it.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until a soft dough forms.
Dough shaped into circle on floured surface
  • All the cheese will be worked throughout the dough now. Shape the dough into a disc and then cut it into 4 equal pieces.
Dough shaped in circle and cut into four wedges
  • Now take each section and roll out into a rope about 10 inches long. Just like when you were a kid playing with play-doh and making a snake 😉
  • Bring the 2 ends together and press together to make your bagel. Place them on a baking sheet with either a silicone mat or parchment paper.
Four bagels on baking sheet prior to being topped
  • Add your chopped Jalapeño to the top. I lightly pressed mine to make sure they wouldn’t fall off and then sprinkle with some extra cheddar cheese.
Two bagels with toppings prior to baking
  • Pop them in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes. Until they are golden.

When they are done, let them cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. These do not last at my house. They are gobbled up in no time.
