Strawberry Chocolate Granola

Bowl of Strawberry Chocolate Granola

Do you love homemade granola? Me too! I love it because it is so easy to customize! This strawberry chocolate granola is a sweet and fruity twist on classic granola. It is based off of my Easy Homemade Granola with a few changes in ingredients to make it a little more indulgent.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and what better way to someone’s heart than through food? Serve this sweet, fruity and chocolatey granola on a yogurt parfait for a special valentines breakfast treat, snack or dessert.

The first time I made this granola, it lasted approximately ONE day! Double the batch so there is plenty to share. I’m tempted to hide in my closet with a bowl of it so I don’t have to share.

Ingredients in Strawberry Chocolate Granola

OATS

Rolled oats are the main ingredient for granola. Make sure they are old-fashioned rolled oats and not instant. Buy certified gluten free oats if you need this recipe to be gluten free. Check your labels.

SEEDS AND NUTS

This variation has pecans, pumpkin seeds and hemp seeds. Other seeds such as sunflower or sesame can be swapped out. Nuts such as almonds or walnuts may be substituted for the pecans.

If you need this to be nut free, omit the pecans and add in another type of seed.

OIL

Using refined coconut oil instead of butter cuts quite a few calories and also allows this recipe to be dairy free. It is fine to use unrefined coconut oil, but this will add in a little bit more of a coconut taste.

SWEETENER

Honey is used to sweeten in this granola recipe, however maple syrup is also a great sweetener.

SPICES

This particular variation uses only cinnamon and salt. The strawberries and chocolate offer more flavor and so I kept it pretty simple.

ADDITIONAL ADD-INS

Freeze dried strawberries , mini chocolate chips (use a dairy free chocolate chip, such as Enjoy Life to keep this recipe dairy free) and some unsweetened coconut flakes complete this granola recipe. The coconut flakes bake with the granola, the chocolate chips and strawberries are added at the end.

Add the chocolate chips while the granola is still warm to let them get a little melty. Once the granola has cooled, mix it up and you’ll have little clusters of chocolate filled granola. Swoon!

Storing Homemade Granola

Store your homemade granola in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. If your family is like mine, it won’t last that long!
