with an Apple Spice Drizzle

Banana bread is one of those things that can be made year round. I always have bananas on my counter and 9 times out of 10 they end up in a muffin or loaf instead of getting eaten as an actual fruit. Anyone else?
Now that Fall is here, I decided to change up my banana bread and make it with some autumn flavors. This Caramel Apple Banana Bread is everything we love about fall in a classic bread. Diced apple, caramel bits, apple pie spice, caramel extract and yes… a delicious Apple Spice Drizzle for on top. Because, why not?
Ingredients for Caramel Apple Banana Bread:
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 2 teaspoon Apple Pie Spice
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon caramel extract
- 3 Ripe Bananas, mashed
- 1 apple, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup Caramel Bits
For the Apple Spice Drizzle:
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Apple Pie Spice
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
- 5 tablespoon Heavy Whipping Cream
To Make the Banana Bread:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×5 loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and apple pie spice. Set aside.
- In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugars together. Then add the eggs, caramel extract and bananas and mix on low to combine.
- Add the flour mixture and mix on low to combine. Do not overmix. Remove the bowl from the stand mixer and then fold in the diced apple and caramel bits.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 60-70 minutes. Check the loaf at 55 minutes. If it is already browned, place a tented piece of foil over top to prevent more browning.
- Once a toothpick comes out clean from the center, remove and let cool for 10-15 min in the pan. Remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
When ready to serve mix the Apple Spice Drizzle
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and apple pie spice.
- Add the vanilla and heavy whipping cream, whisk to combine. Add more whipping cream to reach desired consistency.
- Pour over top of the banana bread and serve.
